TOOTH IMPLANTS / TYPES OF IMPLANTS

DENTAL IMPLANTS – ZIRCONIUM OR TITANIUM?

There are many different types of dental implants on the market. It’s no wonder you can get lost in the jungle of names and specifications. In the meantime, the simplest way to categorise them is by the material they are made from: zirconia implants and titanium implants. Which one is better? Which one to choose? We are already answering.

ZIRCONIA (CERAMIC) IMPLANTS

A tooth implant made of zirconium oxide is ivory in colour, so it will remain invisible even when the patient’s gums slip. Zirconia is durable and integrates perfectly into natural tissues. However, it has been used in dentistry for less time than titanium. What is more, zirconium implants are less stable, that is why in STENCEL STOMATOLOGY we chose titanium implants.

TITANIUM IMPLANTS

Since a titanium implant has a grey tinge, it may be visible when the gums slip. However, such situations are rare! Taking this into account and the fact that titanium is an extremely durable, biocompatible material which integrates quickly into the bone and provides the highest stability – the winner for us is obvious. If you want an implant which will serve you for many years and perfectly fulfil the functions of a natural tooth, it is a titanium implant!

AESTHETICS ON A TITANIUM SCREW

Placing a titanium implant does not exclude the possibility of achieving high aesthetics of the implant-supported restoration, thanks to the possibility of making individual abutments. In order to avoid blue discolouration of the gingival pocket in case of gingival descent, aesthetic zirconium or anodised abutments are used in the implant-supported restoration.

WHAT IS A DENTAL ABUTMENT?

There are three parts to a dental implant – a titanium screw, an abutment and a crown. The titanium screw replaces the root of the tooth and holds the entire prosthetic restoration. The crown is the part visible in the patient’s mouth. The abutment is the part that connects the implant to the crown. In our office we offer three types of abutments.

Standard – titanium – grey in colour

IIndividual – zirconium – white in colour and anodised – gold in colour

At our clinic, we use premium dental implants – ANKYLOS® by Dentsply Sirona.

Ankylos

This world-class implant system has been used in dentistry for over 30 years and its effectiveness has been confirmed in numerous clinical studies.

One of the biggest advantages of ANKYLOS® is the lifetime availability of all its components. What does that mean for you? If any part of the implant ever gets damaged or needs to be replaced, it can easily be done without starting the treatment from scratch.

ANKYLOS® implants have a special surface structure that supports bone growth, which improves implant stability and helps protect the surrounding soft tissues. Our specialists especially recommend this system when the patient needs bone regeneration using special bone replacement materials before the implant can be placed.

Why is this important? About 6 months after a tooth is removed, the jawbone in that area starts to shrink. If the tooth has been missing for a long time, there may not be enough bone left for a standard implant.

But in our clinic, we can offer advanced surgical procedures to rebuild bone, so that even in difficult cases, implant treatment is still possible.

ANKYLOS® provides excellent aesthetics, durability, and long-term safety – that’s why we trust this system in our implant treatments.

TYPES OF IMPLANTS – A DIFFICULT CHOICE?

When it comes to replacing missing teeth, dental implants are the best available solution. An implant recreates all the functions and looks like a natural tooth and is much more durable than it. If you opt for a dental bridge, you accept the risk of bone loss in its place. However, if you choose an implant instead of a bridge, you can be sure that such a situation will not occur! Implantation is an investment in health for many years!

Dental implants are suitable not only for replacing one or more teeth. In case of toothlessness we can base a prosthetic structure on them – a fixed or removable prosthesis. Implant-supported dentures provide maximum comfort – there is no risk of something coming loose and causing an awkward situation, e.g. during a dinner with friends.

Depending on your needs and anatomical conditions, we select the type of dental implant that is best for you! In implantology an individual approach is extremely important, therefore we provide detailed information after the diagnostic procedure, including computed tomography. Then we know what we can offer you to make sure your dental treatment is effective and meets all your expectations.

Instead of searching on Google for information about which types of implants are best, it is best to ask a specialist. We invite you to a consultation with an implantologist who will answer your questions quickly, reliably and specifically. Thanks to this, it will be easier for you to make a decision about the treatment.
