ORTHODONCY / FIXED BRACES

In order to correct bite abnormalities which are more serious than in the case of treatment with removable braces, fixed braces are applied. They are recommended for both adults and adolescents – everyone with permanent teeth. There is no specific age limit up to which one may be treated by means of braces. The length of wearing the fixed braces depends on the patient’s dental defect.

Fixed braces consist of brackets (catches), healing arches and additional elements – springs and extractors. The brackets are attached to the tooth enamel with a special glue, to which a springy arch is attached by means of ligatures, i.e. coloured rubber bands.

TYPES OF FIXED APPLIANCES

FIXED METAL BRACES

This is the most popular method of straightening teeth in the world. It consists in gluing metal elements on the teeth and systematic replacement of arches, i.e. special wires which, by adjusting to the elements glued earlier, set the teeth properly, creating a beautiful smile. Silver or coloured ligatures may be applied to these braces.

FIXED CERAMIC BRACES

Aesthetic braces of the highest quality. Thanks to special technology of the glue for fixing the braces, they do not get discoloured by coffee or cigarettes. The braces are practically invisible on teeth, suitable for treating any malocclusion.

SELF – LIGATURING BRACES

These are similar to metal and crystal braces. The difference lies in the bracket mechanism, i.e. an element glued to the tooth. It does not require the use of ligatures, i.e. elements connecting the bracket to the arch. In case of aesthetic brackets it is even less visible, it does not contain rubber elements which are subject to discolouration. Check-up visits are less frequent than with fixed braces. Self-ligaturing braces treatment is slightly shorter than the treatment with classic metal braces and there are practically no pains reported by patients.
